For some people, space within their living area is at a premium. When designing the interior of certain rooms, some design features are chosen specifically for the space that they save. One of these rooms that crave space is the bedroom. Many bedrooms today are quite functional and can serve other purposes besides just as a place to sleep. Some may double as office space or a playroom for your children. Let’s face it of all the pieces of furniture you include in a bedroom, the bed is probably without a doubt the largest. Taking into consideration certain types of bed could mean some space savings for you.
Some bed designs were created with the intent to maximize floor space. The bunk bed might be one of these beds that come to mind. Often used in children’s’ rooms, the beds take use of the vertical space by essentially stacking two beds on top of one another. This leaves more room for other furniture items or just living space. Bunk beds are a great solution for a spare bedroom to provide extra sleeping room. Another offshoot of the bunk bed is a mezzanine or loft bed. These are essentially like a bunk bed in design. However, only a bed is present on the top. Underneath the space is left open. Here, you could set up a desk or other bedroom furniture you desire.
A classic bed known for space saving is the Murphy bed. There were designed to be stored in the wall. When not needed, they could simply be put away, again saving space. Over the years, Murphy beds have improved significantly in design, stability and function.
Sofa beds are another sort of bed that can be used to save space in your living area. The bed would be put away when not in use and could be used to serve as a sofa. Then when it is time to go to sleep, the bed can be pulled out. This choice is often a good one for studio apartments and the like. With small spaces, multipurpose furniture is a wise choice.
