Are you looking to take better care of your lawn? The steps
below will help you to positively change your lawn. Although the
steps will help, there is no way to generate immediate results,
or to expect to not have to work at acquiring change.
Some of the work involved will be investing enough of the
required time and care overall by creating correct routines, and
using safe and effective products, tools, and equipment.
The First Lawn Care Step
Before beginning any actual work on your lawn, you need to assess
it’s current condition.
- Is the grass currently healthy?
- Are there any weeds?
- Are they out of control?
- Is the grass too dry?
These questions and the answers to them will help you to
determine what you need to do to your lawn.
After completing your assessment, you can start to work on your
lawn. You should begin by mowing your lawn, even if it is
already short. Mowing is more important and more complicated
than you might think. You cannot expect to have a healthy lawn
if to you, mowing is about simply cutting back and forth until
the grass is short.
Instead, you need to change directions
often. You can start by going clockwise, then counter clockwise,
then diagonal, then repeat the process. The grass blades will be
cut better this way. Finally, make sure you check the sharpness
of the mower blades. If the blades are too dull, they will rip
the grass instead of cutting it cleanly. If the grass is ripped
off, the lawn will look unkempt and uneven.
Mowing is not the only important lawn care step. Using the right
fertilizer can make a big difference in the quality of your lawn.
You will have to do a soil test to determine the amount of
nutrients that your soil needs. The test will provide you with
current levels of phosphorus, potassium, pH, and lime. You will
have to measure the amount of nitrogen through other methods, as
there is no soil test for it.
